Sligo opened the defence of their TG Connacht Intermediatechampionship when they made the trip to take on Neighbours Leitrim in Drumshanboon Sunday.

It was the home side the registered the first score of thegame Aine Tighe pointing on her return from long-term injury after only 3minutes after that Sligo was awarded a penalty when Stephanie O’Reilly waspulled down in the box Denise McGrath dispatched the spot kick to the top righthand corner to give Sligo a two point lead from the kick out Sligo work theball back to Denise McGrath and again she finish to the bottom corner of thenet, Sinead Naughton then pointed for Sligo to extend the lead to six points.

Leitrim where on the back foot but managed to get two morepoints from Aine Tighe before again Sligo took back control of the game withtwo points each from Ciara Gorman Denise McGrath and Emma Keavney and one fromStephanie O’Reilly to leave the score at halftime Sligo 2-07 Leitrim 0-03.

Aine Tighe she did in the first half opened the scoring forLeitrim when she pointed from 35 yards, Gorman and Emma Guckian exchange pointsfor both sides, Sligo then hit three in a row through Ciara Gorman, SarahReynolds and Stephanie O’Reilly before Grainne O’Loughlin was controversiallysinbined just give Leitrim the vantage and boy did they make you pay on YouTubeWithin a minute of December then had a goal and a point before Sligo conceded apenalty which is in currency dispatched to the bottom right-hand corner NoelleGormley, Ailbhe Clancy again added a point to Minnesota before Michelle hessiannotched two more points for Leitrim one from Play Leitrim was closing the gapand reduced it to just two points with loadout photos of a save from NoelleGormley to finish to the back of the net for two minutes to play Sligo held outand Elaine O’Reilly pointed with the last kick of the game first Sligo to givethem the 3 point win

Next up for both teams are Roscommon Leitrim will play themon the 28th of May Sligo will play them on the 17th ofJune all three counties fighting for their place in the Connacht final on the 2ndof July in McHale Park Castlebar

Speaking after the game Paddy Henry said Sligo still have alot of work to do if if they want to win the Intermediate title and thatLeitrim were unlucky not to get the win in the end.
